  4. QUICK SETUP:
  5.  
  6. For those that don't read docs, put Top DL and the Top DL folder in the
  7. Externals folder and reboot.  Complete all settings and the demo will
  8. function for 7 days without registration.
  9.  
  10. BASIC DESCRIPTION:
  11.  
  12. Top Downloads will show up to 15 different lists of "top downloaded" files.
  13. Each list can have up to 50 files shown.  It can be configured by Security
  14. Level, Access Letter, date and Transfer Directory to show lists from either 
  15. the external menu, when entering the Transfer Section, or while in the
  16. Transfer Section.  The following shows a sample list:

  36. REGISTRATION INFO:

  38. Top Downloads is keyware.  It will expire after 7 days use unless registered.
  39. The registration fee is $10. "Upload Creditor" registration is also included
  40. for those registering Top DL.  Upload Creditor is a Hermes II external that
  41. will give a sysop-selectable amount of download credit to a user each time his
  42. file is downloaded by others.  
  43.  
  44. You can register by mailing the form at the end of the docs to Computer
  45. Classifieds.  For quicker registration you can use your Visa or Mastercard and
  46. register on the Hermes II Support BBS.  Leave mail to user #1 and be sure to
  47. include the exact BBS name you want your copy of Top DL registered to.  All
  48. serial numbers are sent via E-Mail on the Support BBS.

  50. ABOUT THE DOCS:
  51.  
  52. Top DL has several "nested" menus, so reading the documentation is necessary
  53. for proper setup and operation.  Also, some easily-understandable commands are
  54. not explained here in the docs.
  55. EXTERNAL FILES SETUP:
  56.  
  57. Place the Top DL external and the Top DL folder in the Hermes II Externals
  58. folder.  
  59.  
  60. Inside the Top DL folder you should have three additional folders.  They are
  61. Lists, Headers and ANSI Headers.  Once Top DL runs it will generate two files
  62. in the Top DL folder.  They are "Top DL GSet" and "Top DL LSet".  Inside the
  63. Headers and ANSI Headers folders you will find header files for each of the 15
  64. possible lists.  You can edit these files with a text editor if you wish.  Top
  65. DL will automatically insert and center names entered from the Settings Menu.

  67. ENTERING LETTER V FOR ACCESS IN TRANSFER SECTION:

  69. You can access Top DL from the Hermes Externals Menu or by typing V when in the
  70. Transfer Section.  For the letter V to access Top DL, you must add the letter V
  71. to String #1 of the STR# resource of the Hermes II application.  This will not
  72. be necessary for any Hermes II application released after Hermes II v1.0.1.
  73. You can use ResEdit, Resourcer or other resource editor to enter the V.

  90. Entering S at the Main Menu will display the following  List Menu.  Then enter
  91. the number of the list you wish to configure.  This will then actually display
  92. the Settings Menu for that list.  Once you name the list from within the
  93. Settings Menu, the actual name of the list will show .  Remember, you must
  94. select each list you want to use and then configure it.

  135. Entering C will display the Choose Directories Menu.  This menu will allow you
  136. to select which Transfer  Directories are to be included in this list.  Any
  137. directory with a * is included.

  151. AUTO-SELECT FEATURE:

  153. By selecting A at the Choose Directories  Menu, Top DL will automatically
  154. select all directories that fall at or between the "Low SL for List" and "High
  155. SL for List" as set for this list (from the Settings Menu).  If you included an
  156. Access Letter in the setup, then only Transfer Directories with the Access
  157. Letter in them (in addition to the SL requirements) will be selected.  You can
  158. manually edit the list by entering the Transfer Dir number.

  172. From this point you can Quit to the Main Menu as this completes the setup for
  173. the first list.  If you want to configure more lists, go back to the List Menu
  174. and select additional lists.

  178. Selecting V from the Main Menu will display a list of Top DL lists.  Entering a
  179. number will display that list.

  199. CREATE/UPDATE LISTS:

  201. Selecting this will manually create any new lists and update all current lists.
  202. Top DL will automatically update and create any new lists at the selected time,
  203. so you may never need to do this unless you make a new menu and want the
  204. results to be immediately available.

  208. Entering G at the Main Menu will display the Global Defaults Menu.

  220. Settings [T, D, S, A, O, Q] :
  221.  
  222. The Show on V selection allows the Top DL list(s) to be displayed when
  223. selecting V while in the Transfer Section.  If you are using Ballot Box v1.0.2
  224. or earlier, you must upgrade to a newer version or the Ballot Box selections
  225. will be displayed.

  227. If the All Applicable Lists selection is Yes, all lists the user has access to
  228. will be displayed when entering the Transfer Section.  If No is selected, then
  229. only the first list the user has access to is displayed at this time.

  231. If the Output every T selection is Yes,  every time the user enters the
  232. Transfer Section the the appropriate list(s) will be displayed.  Selecting  No
  233. will result in list display only on the first call of the day for each user.

  235. Co-Sysop SL sets the minimum SL allowed for access to all the configuration
  236. menus.
